CTE Summer Discovery Camp Instructor


General Information


The Madison Metropolitan School District is seeking a limited-term, Summer Career and Technical Education (CTE) Camp Instructor. We are looking for instructors for the following Summer Discovery Camps:

  • Auto and Transportation

  • Barbering and Cosmetology

  • Business, Marketing, and Entrepreneurship

  • Coding and Robotics

  • Culinary Arts

  • Design and Marketing

  • Engineering Design

  • Flight and Drone Technology

  • Health Science

  • Intro to Computer Science

  • Video Production

  • Skilled Trades: Construction

July 6th through July 16, 2026


Work Hours


8:30 - 4:30 - Full Day (Monday through Thursday)

12:30 - 4:30 - Half Day (Monday through Thursday)


Purpose of Position


The camp instructor will engage middle school students in hands-on career exploration and skill development in various CTE-related content available at the MMSD high schools. The Instructor will also provide leadership and guidance for a group of students, ensuring a safe and high-quality experience for students. Under the direction of the CTE Specialist, the Summer Camp Instructor will assist with the planning, developing, and implementing program activities.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


Plan and implement hands-on and developmentally appropriate camp programming in one of the above CTE content areas for middle school students.

Supervise students' activities, including but not limited to games, field trips, and other outside activities.

Know the whereabouts of the group at all times, including early morning arrivals, bus, and camp, to ensure students' safety.

Provide a safe, engaging, and enjoyable experience for each student.

Set a good example in promptness, manners, language, appearance, and health.

Set a good example in respect and care for the facilities and the out-of-doors.

Create and maintain group unity by making everyone feel a part of the group.

Check group attendance each morning.

Contact parents of students as needed during camp

Keep all classroom equipment in good operating condition and be responsible for returning items to their proper place at the end of the camp.

Keep required program records

Maintain positive relations with parents and other staff

Assist in maintaining and cleaning the assigned classroom.

Report all program changes and equipment needs to the CTE Specialist.

Report any difficult or unusual situations


Qualifications


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Be dependable and punctual.

A high energy level, flexibility, and the ability to work the contract hours.Ability to teach in a hands-on, project-based environment

Ability to facilitate students in problem-solving strategies

Skilled in a computer-based environment

Familiarity with and commitment to using proper safety procedures that follow OSHA and other state requirements and certifications needed for family/consumer and health science environments

Effective classroom management practices to facilitate learning in a lab environment.

experience working with or planning learning experiences for middle school students.

Demonstrated commitment to supporting a hands-on curriculum focused on preparing middle school students for relevant technical pathways in high school in today's ever-changing workplace.

Ability to work collaboratively with others.

Good communication and organizational skills to ensure students receive the support they need.


Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:

Three years of industry work experience in the camp content area.

Non-MMSD Employees must pass a mandatory criminal background check through the onboarding process.


Desired Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree.

Current CTE teacher certification at the Middle or High School level in the camp content area.
